Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the UFWW and the UFWW Bargaining Team we would like to take a moment to welcome you back to campus and make you aware of some important events happening this fall and later this academic year.

By now you should have noticed that your salary has increased by 4% this fall. This increase was negotiated between the UFWW and WWU as part of a contract reopener that occurred in the spring of 2018 and covered the final two years of our current collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The current CBA expires in September of 2020 and later this academic year we will begin the process of bargaining a successor agreement. Your input is vital to this process and so you will soon be receiving an email invitation to complete a bargaining survey to collect your input. The survey will be available starting Monday, October 28 and will be open for one week until November 4.

In addition, in early November (Nov. 5 and 6) we will be holding two open forums to give you a chance to share your thoughts. These forums will be held from 4-5pm in Fraser Hall 101 and will be attended by the UFWW Bargaining Team and representatives from the UFWW Executive Committee.

Every UFWW Bargaining Team has bargained with the University for competitive faculty salaries in a national market to support the effort to recruit and retain the best faculty to serve the academic mission of Western. In addition to compensation, our collective bargaining agreement covers many other important areas of faculty life – workload, tenure and promotion, appointments of both tenure-line and non-tenure-track faculty, professional leave, intellectual property, and many other topics pertaining to wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment. Please join us for one of the forums and respond to the survey. We look forward to hearing from you!
