Dear Faculty,
UFWW hopes you enjoyed opening your paychecks this week and noticing your increased pay. Your 2% raise is the second part of this year’s total 4.25% across the board raise which we bargained last spring. And this year’s 4.25% increase is only part of the 44% across the board increase in pay that your union has bargained on your behalf since 2008.
While noticing your raise, did you also look to verify that UFWW dues were being withheld? If you didn’t see this reduction, you aren’t a member of the union. In the past you’ve been a rep fee payer, but that ended this summer with the Supreme Court’s Janus Decision.
Many faculty believed they were union members because they saw this withholding in the past, but the only way to become a member is to voluntarily enroll. Lots of good news here. First, dues are approximately less than 1% of your salary (click here for our current dues schedule: https://www.ufww.org/dues-structure/ ). Second, it’s easy to enroll. Simply go to www.ufww.org, click the large, blue become a member button on the left, print out the form and send it to me at MS9108.
The more members, the stronger our bargaining position becomes for spring 2020 when we’ll negotiate your next contract.
Hope your winter quarter is going well. Thank you for all you do for Western and our students.
Best,
Rich Brown, UFWW President
