Date: September 17th 2021

Greetings Colleagues,

We hope this message finds you well as we begin the 2021-2022 Academic Year. We know that this year will have its challenges and we are committed to continuing to provide support to faculty as we navigate whatever arises. As we begin the year, we have a few short updates to share.

First, we’d like to update you on the bargaining process. As you may remember from the last update, bargaining between UFWW and Western’s administration stalled in June with no agreement. Though no formal bargaining took place for most of the summer, we have recently begun meeting again to continue working towards this goal. The primary area of disagreement was and remains compensation. While we cannot report an agreement at this time, there has been some progress made and we’re looking forward to providing additional updates when possible.

Second, we’d also like to note that although the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) expired on September 15th 2021, all elements of the CBA (including all memoranda of understanding related to COVID) remain in force as the two sides continue to bargain in good faith. This is common practice and we have verified with the administration that both sides understand this to be true.

Lastly, we want to remind faculty that we have a number of agreements in place pertaining to Fall 2021. You can find both the Fall 2021 Workload MOU and the Safety MOU on our website.

We will continue to update you in the coming days and weeks. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. And, as always, we look forward to continuing to offer you support as we enter a new school year.

Sincerely,

Theresa Warburton
President, UFWW

Matthew Roelofs
UFWW Bargaining Chair
