WFSE Local 1381 is in the midst of what appears to be a difficult round of negotiations with WWU management. The majority of our members are more than 25% behind their private sector counterparts in terms of compensation according to OFM’s 2018 Salary Survey. In light of the recent Janus decision by the Supreme Court, public sector unions in general are on the defensive with regard to maintaining and improving member’s working conditions and benefits.
I am writing you today to ask that you spread the word amongst your colleagues about a rally that will occur August 28 at noon in Red Square. There will be pizza provided, as well as information and signs to let management know that we are all committed to negotiating a fair contract for WWU’s classified staff. PSE is also at the table with WWU, and we want to support those negotiations as well. We are inviting all of our Union friends and our families to make a big statement to WWU: Fair contract now! Many of us struggle paycheck to paycheck, have no savings, are eligible for government assistance and do without needed medical and dental procedures. Not to mention that we cannot afford to send our own children to attend this institution.
Please plan to attend on Tuesday and stand with us. I appreciate it very much.
Have a great day,
President, WFSE Local 1381
