Date: January 12th 2010
Dear Colleagues, The Washington state 2010 legislative session has begun and higher education is once again on the chopping block. Many groups are coming together to make the case for our universities in Olympia. As part of that effort, AFT Washington will be taking a group of higher education constituents to Olympia next Monday, January 18 to meet with legislators from the 40th and 42nd legislative districts. Nothing makes a bigger impression on a legislator than a face-to-face discussion. Western faculty and staff are more than welcome to be part of that effort. AFT will provide a bus that will leave Bellingham in the morning and return that evening. On the ride down, AFT will provide food and a discussion of issues to talk about with legislators. Yes, it’s a holiday, but our representatives need to hear from us about preserving the education our current and future students need. If you are interested in attending, please contact
Richard Burton at rburton@aftwa.org or (206) 225-0621. Sincerely, Bill Lyne, United Faculty of Washington State
